Kimono styles, lengths & sizes

Our cotton kimonos and silk kimonos are comfortable, loose-fitting robes that can be worn by men and women all year round. Kimonos are wraps and therefore very adaptable to a variety of body shapes and sizes.

Please note the following differences between our Classic and Short styles:

Classic Kimono

  • Full-length
  • Traditional, three-quarter length rectangular sleeves
  • No pockets or belt loops: matching 2-inch wide belt can be tied at the most convenient position
  • Sleeves can serve as pockets
  • In Japan, this casual form of kimono is known as a yukata

Short Kimono

  • Mid-length (below the knee)
  • Straight, wide, three-quarter length sleeves
  • Patch pocket (men’s short kimonos have two pockets)
  • No belt loops: matching 2-inch wide belt can be tied at the most convenient position

Length is measured from base of collar to hem. Only selected designs are available in the Short Kimono size.
